GHS names new school counselor

Jennifer Uhl is the new Goodrich High School Counselor.
The appointment comes after the untimely death on Aug. 4 of Geraldine (Geri) Hammill, a counselor at GHS for 23 years.
‘I know I can’t fill her shoes, but I’m hoping to be a good addition to the department,? said Uhl.
Uhl will work alongside GHS’s other counselor, Bob Foreback, to help students with career preparation, college applications/admissions, testing, and counseling students through academic or personal problems.
Before landing the counselor position, Uhl taught geography and English at Goodrich Middle School for four years and taught geography and English at Gibraltar Middle School for two years. She also taught geography at Warren Woods for one-and-a-half years.
‘My master’s degree is in counseling, and I had such good experiences at Goodrich, I thought it’d be nice to come back.?
Becoming a high school counselor has been a transition for Uhl.
‘For me, it’s new because I just came out of the classroom,? she said.
‘Middle school and high school are very different because high school really promotes students to start becoming independent while middle school is more strict. And being a teacher is very structured but as a counselor, my plans are on a moment-to-moment basis. I’m constantly switching gears.?
