Girl Scout to host free anxiety workshops at library July 28

Oxford High School senior Paige Palmer is putting on two free anxiety workshops for girls ages 12-18 as part of her Girl Scout Gold Award. Registration is not required.

The workshops will be held on Saturday, July 28 at the Oxford Public Library (530 Pontiac Rd.) from 10:30 a.m. to noon and from 1 to 2:30 p.m.

Palmer has struggled with anxiety for over eight years. With her Girl Scout Gold Award project she wants to help others learn more about anxiety, resources and management tools.

Working with her mentor Dr. Terri A. Scott PhD, Clinical Psychologist, Lapeer, MI, Palmer has developed a workshop that is both informational and interactive.

Palmer has been active in Girl Scouts for over 12 years and has also earned her Girl Scout Silver and Bronze Award.

Girl Scouts has provided many leadership and service opportunities that have help shaped her life.

Palmer has helped run and been involved in girl scout events in her community, made sleeping mats and blankets for the homeless, volunteered in soup kitchens and a battered women’s shelter, made bookcases for Hurley Children’s Foundation and donated over a 150 new books to the organization as well.

In her spare time, Palmer enjoys playing violin—Assistant Concert Master 2017-2018 for Oxford High School Symphony Orchestra and a first violin for Oakland Youth Orchestras Symphony Orchestra.

She is active in her church youth group, girl scouts and enjoys, math, history and art.

Palmer plans on pursuing a degree in Actuarial Science and a Minor in music after her senior year.

She knows the anxiety management tools and resources she has learned will not only help her in her career but the rest of her life.
