High school inducts 68 National Honor Society students

Goodrich-For 18 years, high school teachers John Doerr and William Duso have sponsored Goodrich’s Chapter of the National Honor Society.
Dec. 10 marked a prestigious day for parents and students as 68 new members were inducted into the N.H.S.
‘The National Honor Society has increased the opportunity for students to grow,? said Duso. ‘When a member is inducted, they are committing to step forward and help their school and community in a positive fashion.?
The eligible sophomores and upperclassmen begin the selection process with current N.H.S. members. From there, the faculty members involved with N.H.S. select individuals who exhibit leadership, service, character, and scholarship to be inducted.
‘Out of all the students eligible for NHS, 33 percent participate in our chapter,? said Doerr.
Requirements for members of Goodrich’s Chapter include a 3.6 GPA for sophomores, 3.5 GPA for juniors, and a 3.4 GPA for seniors. Once inducted, each member’s GPA must continue to meet the requirements and 20 service hours must be completed by each individual by the end of the year.
Sophomore Diana Svinarich is excited to be an inductee.
‘I am definitely looking forward to participating in NHS,? said Svinarich. ‘I plan on doing a lot more community service than I have in the past and helping out with math and science tutoring.?
‘This is a terrific group we have in our chapter this year, and we are expecting great things from all of them,? Duso and Doerr agreed.
