Hillebrand vaults her way to the top

Without a doubt, Oxford High School sophomore Sarah Hillebrand is becoming one of the top pole vaulters in the state of Michigan.
She already proved to her fellow teammates that she has the talent ? she is the freshman Oxford High School pole vault record-holder with an eight feet six inch vault.
Even Oakland County served notice as she was the Oakland County Freshman girls pole vault champion this past track season after taking the top spot in the event held at Milford High School on May 23, 2009.
This summer, the accomplishments kept piling up.
In inclement weather, Hillebrand pole vaulted herself into second place at the Landon Athletics Moon Vault that took place near Lansing on Saturday, Aug 1.
She was able to clear the eight-foot mark, beating out some tough competition in the 14-year-old and under age bracket at the second biggest vault competition in Michigan this summer.
‘She is one of the top one, two or three in the state,? said Track Assistant Head Coach Adam Russell. ‘She is a very smart kid who is easy to coach because she has great agility and balance.?
Coach Russell said that she is an outstanding student and has outstanding parental support.
Hillebrand thanked her coaches for helping her achieve so much before the beginning of her sophomore year.
‘My coach is great,? she said. ‘I have definitely improved since I started. I wouldn’t know what to do without him.?
Sarah also competed at the Grand Haven Beach Vault on July 17, which featured over 300 of the top pole vaulters from around the country, ranging from the ages of 12 through 82.
She competed in the 14-year-old age division and came in fourth against 12 other competitors.
