Hoopsters season ends with loss

The Wildcat Boys Basketball closed out its season with an 80-54 loss at Goodrich, who finished the season 18-2.
‘That (Goodrich) was the best team we played all year,? said Oxford Head Coach Steve Laidlaw.
Goodrich got out to an early 22-13 lead after the first quarter and never looked back. By halftime the Wildcats were trailing by 12, and Goodrich put the game away in the third quarter, outscoring the Wildcats 18-11, ending any hope of a comeback.
Junior Mike Bertling lead the Wildcats with 17 points and Senior Anthony Esparsa chipped in 15.
Junior Gary Wurtz had a nice overall game for the Wildcats, finishing with six points, six rebounds and four assists.
‘We started out strong but our inability to rebound effectively and to stop
their penetration resulted in the loss? said Coach Laidlaw.
Oxford started slow in league play, going 3-6 through the first nine games, but the second half of conference saw the Wildcats go 5-4, giving them the best turnaround record for the FML.
The Wildcats finished their season at 8-12 overall, 8-10 in the Flint Metro League, placing them sixth in the league and in a first round district game against Lapeer East.
