Icers freeze West in OT

The Wildcats stared adversity in the face and overcame it, defeating Lapeer West 3-2 in overtime on Senior Defenseman Adam Fisher’s lone goal of the game.
Oxford fell behind again in the first on a goal by West’s Dan Delvecchio. Oxford then rallied in the second and third periods, taking a 2-1 lead on goals by Senior Matt Zaun in the second and Sophomore Matt Reid in the third.
West was able to tie the game in the third and send it into overtime, but were denied thanks to the tremendous efforts of Junior Goalie Corey Hrischuk, who stopped 44 of 46 shots for the game, and Zaun’s defensive play.
‘This was a hard-fought victory for our team,? said Oxford Hockey Coach David Hague. ‘The two teams play a very similar style of play and it’s not surprising that both games this year (against West) went to overtime.’They beat us at our rink a few weeks back and we beat them at their home rink.’It’s really turned into a nice rivalry every time we play them!?
Hague was exceptionally proud of the way his team competed late in the third period and in overtime, citing the performances of Hrischuk and Zaun.
‘Matt Zaun was outstanding on defense, logging a lot of ice time and was very effective at both ends of the ice. Corey’Hrischuk was once again solid in net and made some great saves,? he said.
