Indoor track right for seniors

The aging process has no effect on seniors Tom and Liz Dominick; they continue to exercise on a daily basis.
‘Whatever we can do to keep healthy we do,? said Liz.
Which is why the indoor track at the Goodrich United Methodist Church has come in handy for the Dominicks and numerous others in the area.
Liz feels one of the church’s greatest assets is the strong sense of community.
‘After developing type two diabetes I decided to take up walking,? she said. ‘What’s great about walking at the church is the people there. Some have been sick, others are recovering from surgery, and some go to just keep in shape. We all know each other and are constantly asking one another how they’ve been and what’s new, there’s just a really great feeling of fellowship.?
Unlike most athletic clubs, the Goodrich United Methodist Church, which includes a gym for basketball and volleyball in addition to the indoor track, is not costly. All that’s required to exercise there is a small donation, which goes to the building. The community also participates in fundraising activities such as selling pasties to keep the exercise programs going.
Tom, who kayaks and runs two miles a day, takes advantage of the track on rainy, colder days.
‘It’s great,? he said, ‘because it’s never overcrowded, the people there are great, and it keeps the heart healthy and in shape.?
