Linda Hickmott, 74

Former Oxford resident Linda Lee Hickmott, age 74, of Columbiaville, unexpectedly went to be with her Lord and Savior on October 6, 2022.

Linda Hickmott

Linda was born November 9, 1947 in Pontiac to the late Ralph “Bud” and Beryle Hickmott. She grew up on “Willow Hill Farm” on Noble Road in Oxford. Linda attended the one room school room on North Oxford Road from September 1952 to May 1961 and graduated from Dryden High School Class of 1965 followed by one year at Concordia Lutheran Junior College in Ann Arbor.

Linda and her only child Stacy were Air Force dependents and were stationed in various states with one particularly amazing deployment in Aviano, Italy with Beale Air Force Base, California being their last base. They moved off base and settled in Sutter, California until Linda moved back home to Oxford in 2002 before finally settling in Columbiaville in 2005. Her daughter Stacy and her family followed her in May 2003 and settled in Lapeer.

Linda had various jobs in her lifetime ranging from Cadillac Market in Oxford, Sunsweet Growers Store in Yuba City, CA, Sutter North Medical Foundation in Yuba City, CA before retiring as her favorite position as a medical biller for Dr. Bruce Tabak in Oxford in 2013. She also volunteered for the American Red Cross while living in Italy and California.

Her favorite hobbies were gardening, antique shopping, craft shows and baking. She won awards at various bases for having the “Yard of the Month.” Her love language was passing out homemade treats whether you were happy or sad and despite wanting to make her daughter a different birthday cake each year to expand her baking skills she knew the only thing her daughter wanted was her Momma’s Angel Food cake with homemade seven-minute frosting. But most of all she loved spending time with her family that is beyond broken that her life on earth is over.

Linda is survived by her daughter Stacy (husband Tracy) Simms of Columbiaville; two grandchildren: Katherine (fiance Ian) of St. Clair Shores, Jacob (wife Gabrielle) and great-grandchild Lane all of Lapeer.  She is also survived by
two sister in-laws, her niece and nephews, and several great nieces and nephews. She is also leaving behind her best friend of 60 years Cathy Kowalski of Oxford.  Linda loved the color purple, yellow and green. Feel free to wear this in her honor. She was preceded in death by her parents, and brothers Mark and Paul.

Funeral service is at 1 p.m. on October 17, 2022 at Jansen Family Funeral Home – 4705 Pine St., Columbiaville, where family and friends may visit 11 a.m. till time of service on Monday.  Interment at North Oxford Cemetery.  Memorial contributions in memory of Linda may be made to the Paradise Animal Rescue in Lapeer or to the family.  Share memories, condolences, and pictures with the family at www.jansenfuneralhome.com.

  1. I didn’t know Linda, but I knew her dad, Bud. Bud was my (& my 3 sisters’) bus driver. I called him my hero. Being one of four girls, it was common for others to get our names mixed up. Bud never did . I was in a restaurant & It had been 10 years since I had last seen him, and he knew my name. When he became sick, my sisters and I sent flowers to him at his home. We loved and appreciated him. It sounds like Linda was much like her dad. I send my condolences to you, as it shows by her obituary you loved her well.
