Linden spoils icers last game

The week in Senior nights for Oxford Varsity athletics continued on Saturday night as it was the Varisty Hockey teams turn to honor their Senior in a pregame ceremony.
Senior’s Adam Fischer, Matt Zaun, Ben McLoskey, Elliot Wicker, Ryan Ayers, Jake DePompolo and Anthony Barrett all took turns posing with their parents on the ice before taking a group shot in front of the net as they prepared to end their careers on a high note against Linden.
Unfortunately, Linden didn’t get the memo about the occasion and they crashed it, scoring seven goals in a 7-2 rout of the Wildcats.
Linden was able to use extensive offensive zone pressure early, scoring the first goal of the game before Oxford could blink. The momentum stayed in their favor after Linden Goalie stopped a penalty shot by Junior Mitch Stefanski and scored on their own penalty shot.
They were up 3-0 late in the first when Oxford finally scored on DePompolo’s lone goal of the game, with the assists going to Junior Blaine Marney and McLoskey.
The intensity of the game picked up in the second after McLoskey scored to make it 3-2. DePompolo and Junior David Simpson got the assists on the goal. A skirmish broke out in the Oxford zone, which saw a Linden player get a game misconduct penalty and tossed from the game. The referees settled the teams down, but Oxford was not able to capitalize on the momuntuem it gained.
The final period belonged to Linden. They outscored Oxford 4-0 in the period, ending any hopes of a victory for the seniors.
The Wildcats finished fifth in the Flint Metro League with a 9-6 record in conference play, and were 12-10-1 overall.
