M-24 crash kills Waterford man

A collision with a utility pole in Oxford Village early Monday morning instantly killed a 25-year-old Waterford man and left a 26-year-old Rochester man critically injured.
According to Oxford Village Police Chief Mike Neymanowski, the men were headed south on M-24 when their 2001 black Chevrolet Blazer left the road near First St. (north of Burdick St.) and began travelling on the curb.
At about 2:45 a.m., the vehicle struck a steel utility pole on the west side of M-24, across the street from Oxford Fire Station #1. The pole is one of two from which the emergency traffic signals in front of the fire station are suspended.
The Waterford man, who was identified as John Moxon and seated in the front passenger seat, was dead at the scene when emergency personnel arrived, Neymanowski said. The Rochester man, who was driving, was transported to POH Medical Center in Pontiac.
Neymanowski said the young man was reported to be in critical, but stable condition.
Both men were wearing their seat belts and the vehicles? airbags did deploy.
So far, police have been unable to locate any witnesses to the fatal crash, the cause of which is currently under investigation, according to the chief.
Anyone with information about the accident is asked to call the Oxford Village Police at (248) 628-2581.
