Magyar’s last game is perfect

Senior Mike Magyar ended his Varsity Wildcat bowling career with a bang on Saturday, Feb. 13 as he bowled a perfect 300 game in the Boys 29-1 victory over Linden.
‘Mike worked hard with his coaches all week and he earned this,? said Head Coach JR Lafnear.
Magyar also bowled a 236 in the second game of the series. When the day was completed, he established three school records, the 300 game, most points in a two game series with 536 and raised his average to 208. For his efforts this season, he was named to the first team all FML conference.
‘Mike works harder than anyone on the team and he is an outstanding student as well. He made his Grandpa Bob very proud,? said Lafnear.
Magyar wasn’t the only varsity boy who saw success on the alley that day. Senior Corey Young bowled a 246 in game one, while senior Matt Baggett rolled a 199 and 207 in two games. Junior Kevin Rein bowled a 211 in the second game to help contribute to the victory.
Fellow senior Brandon Wynkoop was named to the third team all FML, while Young and junior John Garza were honorable mentions.
The girls fared just as well, winning their match by a 30-0 score. Senior captain Kelly Cartner lead the Wildcats with games of 211 and 237, establishing a school record with a 448 two-game series.
Sophomore Heather Lafnear bowled games of 165 and 190, while senior Sarah Decker finished her FML competition by recording a 220 in game two.
Five girls were selected as part of the all FML teams. Cartner and Decker were first team selections, while Lafnear made the third team and senior Anna Tomaka and sophomore Colleen Walters were honorable mentions.
‘These are great honors and the kids earned them by getting the respect of the league coaches. We are very proud of all of them as well as those who weren’t selected,? said Lafnear.
The Boys finished second in their final year in the Flint Metro League with a 7-2 record, losing to Holly and Kearsley, who finished first.
The girls finished with a 8-1 record in the FML, finishing second to Kearsley.
