The discussion of the non-homestead millage ballot language is over for the Clarkston School Board.
At the Feb. 13 meeting, the board voted 7-0 to approve the final wording for the May 2 election.
Voters will decide whether or not to approve the district’s request for 19.2491 mills of non-homestead tax for a period of 10 years.
The district can legally collect only 18 mills, estimated in the ballot language to be worth approximately $7.6 million in 2006.
If approved, the additional 1.2491 mills will offset the effects of the Headlee rollback. School officials anticipate the additional mills to provide the district 2-4 years before the rollback brings the collectable rate below 18 mills. At that point, the district will likely ask for a secondary ‘restoration? millage to bring the rate back above 18 mills.
