Mixed results for bowlers

The Varsity Bowling teams got back on track against Lapeer East after a couple of rough weeks against the top competition in the Flint Metro League.
The girls split the baker games against the Eagles, winning game one 180-126 before losing 165-150. Sophomore Heather Lafnear and senior Colleen Walters starred for the Wildcats in baker, each going four for four.
East then shocked the Eagles when they took the first head-to-head game 815-756, leaving the Wildcats trailing 11 to 8. Senior Captain Kelly Cartner then took over for the Wildcats, posting a 233 game in the second game, which got the Wildcats going. They used her momentum to coast to a 18-12 victory.
‘This come from behind win was important because the girls can still get a share of the FML title,? said Head Coach JR Lafnear. If Oxford wins next week against Linden and Holly beats Kearsley, the girls will be Co-champions in the FML.
‘We needed to win to keep pace with Kearsley. The girls had their backs against the wall and they responded well,? he added.
The boys match against East was pretty much a carbon copy of the girl’s game. They started off slowly, losing the first baker game 163 to 159 before finding a way to win baker game number two 145 to 126.
The Wildcats continued to struggle, losing 895 to 838, with only seniors Brandon Wynkoop and Kevin Rein winning points for Oxford. However, they turned it around in game two behind senior Captain Mike Magyar, who opened game two with six strikes, finishing with a 225. Senior Sean LeBlanc came off the bench to win a game. The Wildcats won by only 24 pins.
‘It was nice to see the team respond, but frustrating to see them struggle in their home house,? said Lafnear. They boys are currently 6-2 and in third in the FML standings. They bowl against Linden to end the season.
