Mixed start to FML season for X-country

Flint Metro League play began this past week for the Varsity Cross Country teams in a quad-meet against Fenton, Holly and Brandon.
The Girls were able to defeat Brandon 16-41 and Fenton 26-30. They lost to Holly 28-31.
The Wildcats placed three girls in the top ten overall, four in the top 15.
Brooke Kovacic broke her own Freshman record by running a 19:39. She finished first overall. Freshman Ashley Burr finished second overall with a time of 20:48.
Senior Captain Shannon Seeley was the last Wildcat in the top ten, placing seventh with a time of 22:22, and Senior Captain Kate Wolanin was 14th with a time of 22:55.
The Boys didn’t fare quite as well. They were able to defeat Brandon 19-42, but they lost to Holly 21-34 and Fenton 19-37.
Even with the losses, they were able to place four runners in the top 15, two in the top ten.
The top performer was Junior Dylan Smith, who finished sixth overall with a time of 17:39. Senior Alex Pollack finished 28 seconds behind Smith in seventh, finishing with a 18:07.
Freshman Ross Chapman finished 14th at 18:34, finishing just ahead of teammate Ryan Gillespie, who ran a 18:36 and was the final Wildcat who posted a top 15 time, finishing 15th.
Cross Country Head Coach Ray Sutherland was delighted with his teams performance. ‘It was a good effort,? he said. ‘We’re improving and the times are dropping. I’m very pleased.?
Clio, Kearsley and Brandon all come to Seymour Lake Twp. Park on Sept 22 to try and run with the Wildcats.
