Motorcycle ride to benefit mentoring program for girls

Oxford residents are invited to break out their motorcycles for a good cause this Saturday, June 25 during the first annual Ride Today for Women of Tomorrow event.

The event is being held in support of the metro-Detroit chapter of Women of Tomorrow, a nationwide organization which partners accomplished professional women with at-risk girls in Oakland and Wayne County. Through the mentoring program, the women act as a guide to the girls to help steer them towards a better future.

“We really feel that if we show the girls there’s a better way to stay in school . . . if we push them to succeed, it can really help the girls and their whole family,” said Oxford Township resident Kallie Roesner-Meyers.

According to Roesner-Meyers, Ride Today for Women of Tomorrow aims to help raise awareness for the organization and encourage local business women to get involved as mentors.

The ride and poker run begins at 10 a.m. at TTi Global in Rochester Hills. Riders will depart from TTi in two groups, one at 11 a.m. and one at noon. The morning portion of the event will include breakfast, contests, and prizes.

The Ride will end at Ray C’s Harley Davidson in Lapeer where Women of Tomorrow will help celebrate Ray C’s 12th Annual Rodeo until 4 p.m. During the rodeo, guests will enjoy a pig roast, live music, bike contests, giveaways and more. Riders and non-riders are welcome.

The entry fee is $25 per bike for individuals and a $250 entry fee for clubs/organizations. Participants can also sho support by making a tax-deductible donation.

Any person or organization can sponsor a $500 scholarship for one girl and can invite and bring as many riders as they would like. Proceeds will support the Metro Detroit Program, which currently mentors over 1,191 at-risk girls in 54 public high schools throughout the area.

Registration is recommended.

To sponsor a scholarship or sign up, call Jill Harris at the Detroit office of Women of Tomorrow, (248) 430-4095, or email RideToday@WomenofTomorrow.org.

  1. Motorcycle ride from Rochester Hills to Ray-Cs in Lapeer with pig roast, entertainment and good fun. Great cause, I heart radio will be there, I’ll be there, you be there too, even if not riding. Weather is supposed to be great.

  2. Sounds like a TON of fun! Definitely going to be beautiful weather – and such a good cause!
