New hire, promotion and new vehicle for OXFD

It was a sweep for the Oxford Fire Department at the Dec. 12 township board meeting. All three of its agenda items were approved in 7-0 votes.

Officials started by approving the hiring of Joshua Plyler as a full-time firefighter/paramedic effective Dec. 17.

Plyler, a paid-on-call firefighter for the Grand Blanc department and a paramedic with a private ambulance company in the Flint area, fills the vacancy created when Sarah Racer was promoted last month to lieutenant EMS coordinator.

Another Oxford firefighter moved up the ladder as officials approved the promotion of Justin Templeton, a full-time employee since 2006, to shift sergeant. His new rank will take effect Jan. 1 and his starting wage will be $26.09 per hour.

Officials also approved the purchase of a 2019 Chevy Tahoe for $36,315 from Berger Chevorlet in Grand Rapids.

The new SUV will replace a 2006 Dodge Durango that has 97,942 miles and is “severely rusted through,” according to a Dec. 6 memo from Fire Chief Pete Scholz.

“The Durango will be advertised and sold,” Scholz wrote.
