Oakland County rolls out annual fair

From rides to animals to tractors to exhibits to the food, the Oakland County Fair has favorites for everyone to enjoy as it runs until Sunday, July 17 at Springfield Oaks County Park in Davisburg.

Joey and Tommy Gramith, of Independence Township, were taking their turns sitting on the variety of antique tractors before noon on Saturday, on the second day of the fair and had already while others were seeing how they size up to the giant wheels.

The goats at the Show Me Safari Petting Zoo were happy to be fed.

Six-year-old Jonathan Price from Oxford shared what he enjoyed most were the rides from Big Rock Amusements, with eating an elephant ear and drinking chocolate milk a very close second. Younger brother, Oliver, agreed, the rides were a favorite.

The Oakland County Fair also includes shows and this year they include the Racing Pigs, with five shows daily, the Great American High Dive Show with three shows during the weekdays and four shows on the weekends; and Master Chain Saw artist Ben Risney carves three sculptures per day and all of the creations will be auctioned on Saturday.

Another fair staple is Show-Me-Safari Petting Zoo which fair goers can visit from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily with an opportunity to visit and feed the animals.

Events in the main arena for the remainder of the week include the Superkicker Rodeo on Wednesday, July 13; Night of Destruction on Thursday, July 14; Figure 8 on Friday, July 15 and All Star Monster Truck Show on Saturday, July 16. All shows are at 7 p.m. The All Star Monster Truck Show has a 1:30 p.m. matinee show as well as a 7 p.m. show.

Plus, visit the Miracle of Birth Barn, animal exhibits, exhibits in the Ellis Barn, and horse shows.

The fair will also feature Master Chain Saw Artist Ben Risney with up to three carvings daily; a

balloon artist and stilt walker; Racing Pigs; and Show-Me-Safari Petting Zoo along with other

main arena events, contests, fair food, Big Rock Amusements carnival, fireworks, a free concert

and livestock.

Fair parking, which includes admission, is $12 per vehicle and $6 per motorcycle. Presenting sponsor,

Oakland County Parks and Recreation, offers free parking and Thursday, July 14 with a 2022 Oakland County Parks and Recreation Vehicle Permit.
