Oxford Softball went into spring break on a positive note

The Oxford Varsity Softball Team went into their spring break with a positive double header win against Romeo on April 7.
In game one, the two teams held each other in a dead heat until the top of the sixth when Oxford’s Anne Marie Skylis finally managed to score a run. Romeo answered the run in the bottom of the seventh.
The two teams again held each other in a dead heat, pushing the game into a tenth inning overtime. Playing hard defense in the outfield were Shannon Gerbe and Courtney McGraw, each with a game saving catch. Short Stop Skylis again came to the Lady Cats aid scoring the game winning run.
Overall, Oxford had a great game on the field. Skylis went one for five including a double. Catcher Jessica Anhel went three for four including two RBIs, two doubles and a triple. Winning pitcher Megan Bono, who went all ten innings, only allowed the one earned run out of ten hits.
In game two, the Oxford Lady Wildcats walked away with amore decisive 3-0 win. Junior pitcher Amber Cervantez went for five innings allowing only two hits and no runs. At the plate, she went one for three with three RBIs.
Senior Gerbe had a good game at the plate hitting two for three and scoring two of the Lady Cats three runs.
‘It was nice to win both ends of a double header,? said Coach Sue Roeher. ‘And a good way to go into Spring Break.?
