Steve Porter, pastor of Leonard Community Church, announced his run for the District 1 seat on the Oakland County Board of Commissioners.
Kim Warda, a 39-year-old Oxford resident and Emergency room nurse at Beaumont Hospital-Troy, spent Feb. 11-17 in Haiti helping treat injured adults and children as the tiny Caribbean island nation continues to recover from the 7.0-magnitude earthquake it suffered Jan 12.
27-year-old Oxford resident Karl Oxlade and his friends build a 22-foot tower of snow and ice in the front yard of his father’s house in the Oxford Lakes subdivision.

The Oxford Emergency Safety Authority, with the help of the Michigan Municipal League, has narrowed the field of candidates for police chief to the top five finalists.
A 37-year-old Oxford woman was arrested Sunday for allegedly biting, pulling the hair of and punching her husband. She’s also accused of threatening and hitting a police officer.
A Pontiac youth detained by an Oxford police officer last week hopped into the front seat of a patrol car and drove off after being left unattended. The boy who allegedly stole the police car was caught, and the incident is being reviewed in an internal investigation.

Feb 26, 1970
Five Oxford boys were robbed in two separate incidents at Cobo Arena February 21 while attending a Detroit Pistons basketball game with a group from Daniel Axford school. They were stopped by a group of 4-5 boys in the hallway when they left their seats for refreshments.
Work on the new junior high is winding up and still being promised for March 14 or Easter. Supt. Roger Oberg told the Board Tuesday night they will move furniture in this week.
