Camp Oakland Director Dave Ballenberger resigned suddenly this week, effective March 6 after 12 years on the job.
In their quest to become Oxford’s next police chief, five veteran police officers will face a three-member Michigan Municipal League-approved panel this Friday.
Write-in votes are needed as Leonard tries to fill four council seats. Three incumbants are on the ballot, but a fourth seat, a long-standing vacancy, still needs to be filled.

Liquor by the glass will be on the Oxford Village ballot for the first time in nearly 20 years when voters go to the polls March 9. Only two bars are involved in the liquor by the glass issue. If the issue is passed, both bars would qualify based on population-distribution.
“Science Fair 1970” is coming up all too soon. Oxford High School and Junior High students are in their final week of preparation for the fair.
A head-on accident claimed the life of Marvin C. Ordiway, 32, of 2275 Metamora. The accident occurred on M-24 near Drahner. Oakland County Sheriff’s report said Ordiway’s car crossed over the median and into the path of a northbound vehicle.
A breaking and entering was reported Feb. 20 at 509 Lakeville Rd., home of Mrs. Mabel Spring. The thieves smashed all the windows on the first floor and stole piggy banks and a color TV.
