Police chief OKs outdoor service at Oxford Tap

The Oxford Tap is one step closer to adding an outdoor service area behind its 36 S. Washington St. building.
Oxford Village Council members voted 4-0 to approve Police Chief Mike Neymanowski’s recommendation to the Michigan Liquor Control Commission that the Oxford Tap be allowed to operate an outdoor service area in conjunction with its current liquor license.
With council’s approval, the chief granted the Oxford Tap’s request on the condition that it complies with the MLCC’s rules along with all fire and building codes in the village.
The proposed outdoor service area is 460 square feet in size and will be located behind the east end of the building, facing the southeast parking lot.
Oxford Community Development Authority member Sue McGinnis told council the outdoor service area would have a permanent awning over it and ‘zip-up plastic walls? (which can be opened and closed) to seperate and enclose the space.
In addition to seeking approval from the state LCC, plans for the proposed outdoor service area must also be reviewed by the village planning commission and OCDA’s Design Committee.
McGinnis noted the Design Committee is revising the outdoor seating ordinance to streamline it and make the process easier for businesses that wish to add it ? the idea being to encourage more outdoor seating downtown.
The Design Committee is seeking volunteers. Interested individuals should call (248) 770-8587.
