Police: Shots fired at vehicle, two men in custody

OXFORD TWP. – Two young men are in custody and charges are pending following a shooting that took place Wednesday night at the intersection of Oakdell, Glaspie and Olive roads, just west of M-24.

According to Oakland County Sheriff’s Lt. Scott Patterson, the three men were in a maroon Chevy Trailblazer from which multiple shots were fired at a 2010 Ford Fusion containing two 20-year-old Oxford residents. The incident happened around 9 p.m.

The suspects include the 18-year-old driver and two 17-year-old passengers, one in the front and one in the back. All three are Oxford residents. The driver and backseat passenger are in custody, but the front-seat passenger was questioned and released.

Based on the investigation, Patterson said the two groups were at the BP gas station at M-24 and Oakdell Rd. just prior to the shooting. After the two men in the Fusion left, the backseat passenger allegedly told the Trailblazer driver to follow them.

The Fusion crossed M-24, proceeded west on Oakdell Rd., then turned right onto Glaspie Rd. heading north. It was approximately 70 yards down the road, when it was struck by gunfire, according to Patterson. It appears the Fusion was hit three times. One of the bullets shattered the rear windshield. Another struck the rear passenger-side tire. A third bullet hit a brake light.

Patterson said four shell casings were recovered from the three-street intersection.

The Trailblazer has since been impounded and an unregistered .45-caliber handgun was recovered from inside it.

The driver told investigators it was the backseat passenger who had the gun and fired the shots, according to Patterson. The lieutenant said it appears the backseat passenger was acquainted with one of the men in the Fusion.
