Cops issue citation to mom for allegedly leaving son home alone

On Feb. 26, a 27-year-old Oxford woman was cited by authorities after allegedly leaving her 7-year-old son home alone.

A neighbor called Oakland County Sheriff’s deputies because he heard the boy screaming for help. According to the report, the boy was afraid of the dark and had never been left home alone.

When officers caught up with the boy’s mother, she said she had left him because her sister needed a ride home from work. Authorities observed no harm to the boy nor his little sister and advised the mother to not leave them home alone in their young age. Deputies submitted a request for a child endangerment warrant.

Runaways not found

Officers were searching for two boys from Crossroads For Youth on Feb. 27. The boys, a 15-year-old and a 16-year-old, were seen leaving the Achievement Center and heading into a wooded area. According to the Oakland County Sheriff’s report, they were later seen leaving the Kresge Center, where it appeared they had taken winter clothing. The report stated that officers could not find the boys that night.

Pot, paraphernalia confiscated

Oxford Village police  officers responded to a call near midnight on Feb. 28 reporting two men smoking marijuana underage. Two 17-year-old Oxford men were found parked in their car and, according to the police report, smelled of the drug. When officers approached the men, one of them complained that he had been doing well in school, but would be “in so much trouble” now.

According to the report, police transported the men to the village station for holding and confiscated a large bong, a pipe, two vapes and a grinder. The men were taken to their parents’ respective homes by police because the roads were bad.

Alleged animal attack

Animal control officials were contacted on March 3 after a dog attacked a neighboring pet. The dog was described by the 24-year-old male owner as a “terrier mix.” He told Oakland County Sheriff’s deputies that he was not surprised by the attack and said his dog was “aggressive.” According to the report, he could not afford a dog trainer and did not want it anymore, but is unable to find anyone to take it. Since the owner was willing to surrender the animal, officers called animal control and issued a citation.
