Read us a story!

As part of March is Reading Month, Leonard Elementary held a ‘Bedtime Story Hour? in its library last week.
‘It’s one of our celebrations,? said second-grade teacher Jillian Opalach. Dressed in their pajamas and armed with fuzzy blankets, sleeping bags, pillows and their favorite stuffed animals, the students stretched out on the floor and listened to stories read by a variety of special guests.
Readers included Addison firefighters Marilyn Szost and Janine Hermann, Oakland County Sheriff’s Deputy H. Weir, Leonard Principal Joyce Brasington, Second-grade Teacher Jessica Peyerk and Opalach.
The kids got a huge thrill when NASCAR driver Greg Biffle read them ‘Disney Pixar Cars: Tales from the Track.?
Biffle sent the school a DVD of him reading the story along with an autographed copy of the book.
Opalach’s brother is Biffle’s business manager.
She met Biffle at Detroit’s Auto Show earlier this year and asked him if he’d read a story to Leonard’s kids.
Following storytime, the kids and parents all piled in the gym for milk and cookies courtesy of the school’s PTO.

These young ladies listened intently to a wonderful story read to them in Centennial Park Tuesday. Dubbed ‘Storytime in the Park,? the weekly event features someone from the Oxford Public Library reading books to children. The program is a partnership between the library and the Oxford DDA. More storytimes are scheduled for 12:30 p.m. on June 30, July 7, July 14, July 21 and July 28.
