Red Knapp’s coming to Clarkston area

Soon Clarkston area residents will know the delicious taste of a homemade ‘Nap Burger.?
Red Knapp’s American Grill, a popular downtown Oxford eatery since January 1996, is coming to Independence Township.
Brett Knapp, owner of Red Knapp’s, closed yesterday on the purchase of Duggan’s Irish Pub West located at 6722 Dixie Highway. Within the next six to eight weeks, Knapp plans to turn the 6,900-square-foot building into the second location of his family-style dining establishment, which features everything from pizza and pasta to burgers, steaks and chicken dishes.
‘We’ve always wanted to do a second location,? he said. ‘Clarkston is a growing area and it seemed like a natural place to go.?
Knapp said the Clarkston area is ‘close enough? for him to travel between the two locations ‘fairly quickly,? yet ‘it’s far enough away that it won’t intrude on our existing customer base in Oxford.?
Although Clarkston has a ‘number of good restaurants? already, Knapp said ‘there’s not a whole lot of family-style places.?
‘We felt there was room for another family restaurant there,? he said. ‘We cater to the family here.?
Knapp plans to completely renovate the Irish Pub and ‘transform it into the same log cabin, southwest-feel we have here? at the Oxford location, where rich-looking woods and lots of antlers form a significant portion of the rustic decor.
As far as food, Knapp said because the second location offers more kitchen space, it will allow for a ‘bigger menu? featuring more sandwiches, ribs and salmon.
‘We’ll be adding a few things to our core menu.?
Some special dishes featured in Oxford could become permanent menu items in Independence.
But don’t worry old favorites like the burgers and fish and chips will still be available, he said.
‘We’ll do what we do here and add a little bit more.?
