School millage passes by wide margin

Oxford school district voters overwhelmingly approved a request to increase the non-homestead tax by 2.3549 mills for two years.
By a margin of 2,532 to 1,608, voters agreed to raise the total non-homestead millage rate to its maximum 18 mills.
It’s interesting to note that while Oxford Township voters approved the tax increase by a sizeable margin (2,020 to 1,108), district voters in Addison Township defeated it 406 to 330.
District voters also chose to oust incumbent school board member Anthony Giannola in favor of challenger Pamela Phelps, an Oxford graduate and former school bus driver.
Phelps garned 1,992 votes, while Giannola received 1,439.
Incumbent Lee Barclay was re-elected to his second four-year term on the board of education with 2,174 votes, making him the top vote-getter.
