Normally, the library is a place where folks must be quiet and if they do speak, it’s in hushed tones.
That’s why it probably seemed quite odd to many patrons at the Oxford Public Library last week when the deafening sound of drums and other assorted percussion instruments filled the air.
Don’t worry Gilligan, the drums weren’t signaling the arrival of bloodthirsty headhunters from a neighboring island.
These were sounds of pure joy as children and parents alike gathered to form a drum circle (or ‘drummunity,? if you like) as part of a library youth enrichment program.
The kids had tons of fun learning about the instruments they were playing, while expressing themselves musically.

Here’s what happens when you don’t pay your fire tax. The department shows up, but they just let your house burn while they pose for photos. JUST KIDDING!
Actually, Oxford’s hard-working firefighters took a moment to pose for this group photo during a training burn that occurred on Saturday using an old house at the corner of Pathfinder Trail and W. Drahner Rd.

Christmas came early to Clear Lake and Daniel Axford as the elementary schools played host to fun holiday activities Saturday morning.
Parents and kids got to eat a delicious family breakfast, visit with Santa Claus, shop for cool gifts and make eye-catching holiday decorations to adorn their homes.
A jolly good time was had by all and the parent volunteers at both schools should be commended for making possible such fun and memorable events.
