Speaker urges chamber to ‘realize personal strengths’

Members of the Oxford Area Chamber of Commerce got to learn first hand how to realize their personal strengths and how to reach them at their meeting last Thursday.
Motivational speaker Tim McCarter developed the program Show Me Quick! in 1994 which covers organizational performance, success strategies and career counseling for those seeking to ‘find their niche in life.?
Unlike the standard career assessment tests some career placement companies offer, McCarter said his program exposes the ‘snowflake? element of the human being and doesn’t compare individuals to each other. ‘What this does is compare you to yourself over time,? he said.
McCarter stressed the importance of having each individual’s personal strength be recognized in the workplace.
‘Your strengths combine uniquely into an achievement pattern,? he said.
To find one’s personal strengths in the workplace, McCarter suggested focusing on a time when a goal was fulfilled by being extremely focused in a non-stressful way.
He claims all of these instances contain the same ‘peak experiences,? which form your strengths.
If the experience you encountered was stressful, it might not be your strength.
‘If you understand where your triggers are, you know when to hand off a project to someone else who has the strength for that particular activity,? he said.
McCarter explained to the Chamber members how to recognize strengths in others, like their employees.
Those who are excited and have a high energy flow are more apt to achieve the assignment given than those who are bored and uninterested.
‘It’s when you’re doing something you’re loving and you’re fully engaged that you become successful,? he said.
