Sweet dreams

Ortonville- The children were nestled all snug in their beds.
Twenty women who have made more than 150 pillowcases to donate to children this Christmas may be hoping for that, but the pillowcases are in need of pillows to stuff them with.
Brenda Heffernan, owner of Mabelena Quilting Supplies and Comforts, 470 Mill St., is hoping members of the community will step forward with donations of about 100 standard pillows to put in the colorful, child-friendly pillowcases that her customers have made. The pillows and pillowcases will be given to the Community Christmas Toy Store, which will distribute them to low-income families in the Brandon School District. This is the third year Heffernan and Mabelena’s customers have made the donations.
‘As too many families struggle to feed their children, I know a new pillow and pillowcase are not on the top of their holiday shopping lists,? said Heffernan.
‘But the families that these are donated to, I’ve been told they love it. It’s become an annual tradition.?
Heffernan has received donations of 50 pillows this year, but still has 100 cases to fill.
‘People are so generous and customers have been so happy to make the pillowcases,? she said. ‘It is a true blessing that we have so many women wanting to help.?
Anyone wanting to make a pillow donation can drop pillows off by Dec. 10 at Mabelena’s during store hours, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday; 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Thursday; and 10 a.m.- 3 p.m. Saturday. Checks may also be made payable to Mabelena for the purchase of pillows.
