Swimmers fifth, many records broken in OAA I meet

A number of records, including six pool records and two league records, were shattered at the Oakland Activities Association’s Division I league meet, held at Lake Orion High School on Feb. 25.
The Dragons finished fifth with 267 points and a deep Birmingham Groves squad prevailed with a 401 total, 75 points ahead of the nearest competition.
Lake Orion had many notable performances, highlighted by a one-two finish from Ricky Forrest and Dave Brown in the 500-yard freestyle.
Forrest edged his teammate by 0.31 seconds, with the third place finisher coming in over three seconds after Brown.
Forrest also finished second in the 200-yard individual medley, and Brown was second in the 200-yard freestyle.
The two teamed with Andrew Kuehl and Garrett Ruhland to win the 400-yard freestyle relay by nearly four seconds. That same foursome was second in the 200-yard freestyle relay.
Ruhland was first and Kuehl fourth in the 50-yard freestyle, and Ruhland also finished second in the 100-yard freestyle event.
In the one-meter diving competition, LO’s Brandon Figurski and Bloomfield Hills Lasher’s Adam Ralph put on quite a show.
In the end, it was Ralph claiming first place, with Figurski second and teammate Kellen Malstrom in sixth.
The team will participate in the state prelims and finals on March 10-11 at the University of Michigan.
