Oxford United Methodist Church said thank you to the community’s first responders at a barbecue outside the church at 21 E. Burdick on Saturday, Sept. 18.
“We are so pleased, and so proud, and so thankful for all you folks do for us,” said Rev. Julius E. Del Pino. “The risks that you take, the sacrifices that you make on our behalf does not go unnoticed. . . We are so fortunate and blessed to have people like you serving us.”
Members of Oxford Fire Department, EMS, Oxford Police Department and Oakland County Sheriff’s Oxford Substation accepted wood plaques for their departments and shook hands with members of the congregation.
“We figured between 9/11 and Covid, we had to do something to honor our first responders,” said Oxford UMC member Carolyn Lawrie, who organized the event. “Sometimes you just got to give back.”
Carolyn’s husband, Todd Lawrie CNC-carved round plaques from salvaged maple wood.
