Twp. OKs tax rates, budgets

Last week, Oxford Township officials approved millage rates and budgets for the 2017 fiscal year, which begins Jan. 1.

The board set the township’s operating tax at 0.9373 mill. That helps support the general fund, which was approved at $2.6 million.

Officials set the fire department’s operating tax at 3.4404 mills. The fire budget was approved at $3.2 million.

The police budget, which funds the township’s contract with the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office, was approved at $2.6 million with a tax of 3.857 mills.

Officials approved levying a 0.8392-mill tax to support the parks and recreation department’s $1.5 million budget and a 1.3742-mill tax to finance the public library’s $1.1 million budget.

The North Oakland Transportation Authority budget was approved at $1.3 million with a tax rate of 0.2456 mill.

Oxford’s three full-time elected officials each received 2.5 percent pay raises. The supervisor’s annual salary will go from $71,791 to $73,586. The clerk and treasurer salaries will increase from $62,289 to $63,846.

The four township trustees will each make $5 more as their pay is going from $115 to $120 per meeting.
