W. Burdick St. project to begin July 8 or 17

Motorists who regularly travel W. Burdick St. in Oxford Village take notice – construction is coming.

Resurfacing of the street between Ashley Way and M-24 is expected to begin on either Monday, July 8 or Wednesday, July 17. Shortly before press time, the Leader was informed it will most likely start on July 17, but it wasn’t definite.

The work will consist of removing the top 2 inches of road surface and replacing it with new asphalt.

The project is expected to take up to a week to complete. One side of W. Burdick St. will remain open at all times.

However, according to village Police Chief Mike Solwold, motorists on M-24 will be prohibited from making any left or right turns onto W. Burdick St. Solwold explained eliminating these turns temporarily will make it easier and safer for the construction crew to efficiently control the flow of traffic on W. Burdick St.

Back in March, the village council awarded a $178,623 contract to the Oxford-based Birmingham Sealcoat, Inc. to do the resurfacing. Part of the project is being paid for using $26,689 from Oakland County’s Local Road Improvement Program. The rest is coming from the village’s coffers.
