Wayne Ackley Patterson, 81

Wayne Ackley Patterson, 81, of Attica died on December 6, 2023. He was born March 8, 1942 in Leonard, Michigan to parents Dwight and Shirley (Sowles) Patterson. Wayne graduated in 1960 from Almont High School. After which he attended Mott Community College and graduated from Western Michigan University in 1966 with a degree in Engineering. He was employed for 40 plus years at AC Spark Plug / Delphi in Flint as a cost estimator and a catalytic converter engineer. On June 15, 1968 he married the love of his life, Linda (Smith) Patterson, in Leonard, Michigan. Wayne and Linda lived in Attica for over forty years. Wayne enjoyed golfing (watching and playing) with his Delphi co-workers and grandsons, Ethan and Logan. He was actively involved in the Attica Boy Scout Troop 139, as an Assistant Leader, Merit Badge Counselor, where he saw both his sons achieve Eagle Scout. As a member of Calvary Bible Church in Lapeer for over 50 years, he was active as an AWANA leader, Sunday School teacher and a Deacon. He was also a volunteer at WMPC radio in Lapeer. Wayne was active in the Lapeer Gideons for over 20 years and served as Chaplain, Scripture Chairman and President. He enjoyed speaking about the Gideon’s work at area churches and attended many state and national conventions to share God’s Word. Through his mother’s hard work, he discovered that he was a Mayflower descendant of George Soule and William Bradford. He was an active member of both the Mayflower Society and Soule Kindred. He attended one convention at Plymouth, Massachusetts and many of the state and national conventions. He obtained memberships for his three children and junior memberships for his seven grandchildren. Wayne enjoyed working on his 1926 Model T that he inherited from his father. He belonged to the Borderline T’s Club. He also belonged to the Cushman Club and enjoyed riding his Cushman in the Leonard Strawberry Festival Parade. He enjoyed old-time farm things and was a member of the Octagon Barn organization and liked going to their fall festival every year. For over 50 years, he and the family attended the National Thresher’s Association in Wauson, Ohio. The old-time steam engines and antique tractors were always a winner for him. Wayne was an avid runner and participated in the 10-mile Bobby Crim Race in Flint for over 35 years (at the end as a member of the 30-Year Club). The one highlight of his life was the 2109 trip to the Holy Lands with the Ft. Myers Church where he and Linda attended when the spent time in Florida each winter. Wayne is survived by his wife of 55 years; children David (Nikki) Patterson of Lake Orion, Nathan (Christina) Patterson of Attica, and daughter Becki (Nick) Cole of Lapeer, grandchildren Ethan, Cameron, Logan, Morgan, Emily and twins Ryleigh and Luke; brother Bruce (Virginia) Patterson of Attica; and many nieces and nephews, and several great nieces and great nephews. He was preceded in death by his aforementioned parents. Visitation was held on Monday, December 11, 2023 at the Muir Funeral Home and Celebration of Life Center – Imlay City. Funeral Services were held on Tuesday at the Muir Funeral Home and Celebration of Life Center – Imlay City. Pastor Jeremy Lazzell officiated. Wayne will be laid to rest in the Attica Township Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Gideon’s International, WMPC Radio Station or Friends of the Thumb Octagon Barn.
