Wildcat LAX thumps Lapeer

The Wildcat lacrosse team beat the visiting Lapeer Lightning lacrosse team 11-1 at their first game of the season March 23.

The Wildcats were led that evening by senior Spencer Petoskey’s eight point outburst and summer league teammate Garrett Stuk, who netted five points on three goals and two assists.

The team played well but, according to Head Coach Greg Normand, the team still has some work to do this season.

“For a first game, I thought we played well. I know there are about ten key elements that we have to work on this week in practice, but that comes from the early season territory,” Normand said.

Senior Sam Urban contributed a goal, as did senior attack Gavin Fritz. Collin Grzanka had two assists.

Oxford won the ground ball battle 27-14 and the face off stats 10-4.

Wildcats goaltender Giovanni DeBlasi, who is an Oxford Virtual Academy sophomore, also made his first appearance as a Wildcats athlete that night.

“I knew we might be fast after watching our winter league games… but I was really happy with our growth as far as open field speed and… the play of our new young student-athletes who haven’t played in a varsity game before. Our sophomores did great tonight. Grzanka, Thomas Wandrie and freshman Logan Vachon showed me they can play hard and not panic. It was fun watching them tonight,” Normand said.

On April 11, the Wildcats go up against West Bloomfield at W. Bloomfield High (4925 Orchard Lake Rd., W. Bloomfield Twp) at 7 p.m.
