X-country squads finish top 5 at Brother Rice Invite

The Varsity Girls and Boys Cross Country teams continued their strong start to the season by finishing in the top five in the West Bloomfield Brother Rice Invitational on Saturday, Sept 12.
The girls finished third out of 14 teams at the event, with four girls receiving individual medals. Freshman Brooke Kovacic took home first overall with her time of 19:59. According to Cross Country Coach Ray Sutherland, Kovacic’s finish was the first time an Oxford girl took home a first place medal at the event.
Freshman Ashley Burr finished third overall with a time of 20:44, while Senior Captain Shannon Seeley’s time of 21:31 placed her 13th.
Seeley’s sister Megan continued the good showing for Oxford, getting the fourth and final medal as she finished 27th at 22:25.
Senior Kate Wolanin rounded out the Wildcat’s top five with a time of 23:25, which was good for 38th.
The Boy’s continued the good showing by finishing fourth overall out of 15 teams.
Junior Dylan Smith’s time of 17:53 was the best for the Wildcats, and it placed him 13th overall. Senior Alex Pollack came in 19th with a time of 18:13, and Freshman Ryan Gillespie came in 25th with a time of 18:27.
The last Wildcat to medal for the boys was Sophomore Alec Smith, who crossed the finish line in 18:43, good for 27th.
Freshman Ross Chapman finished 39th overall with a time of 19:02.
Coach Sutherland was pleased with the teams performance this past weekend. ‘To get a third and a fourth at this event, I am very pleased. It was a good effort and good improvement,? he said.
The Wildcat’s open Flint Metro League play at Holly against Holly and Brandon on Tuesday, Sept. 15.
