2021 Oxford Wildcats cornerback John Valvo committed to the Albion Britons on January 7, sharing the news on his Twitter account, @JohnValvo2002.
Emerging as a leader for head coach Zach Line and co-defensive coordinators Matt Call and Ryan Clark, Valvo, who is listed at 5-foot-9 and 182 pounds, registered 21 tackles for the Wildcats as a senior, including four-and-a-half for loss. He also chipped in offensively, carrying the football two times for 11 yards and catching two passes for eight yards.
This tackle total was third-best on the team, trailing only Jack Wandrie’s 25.5 and Ty Myre’s 22, both of whom were linebackers and fellow 2021 graduates.
As a junior under then-head coach Bud Rowley, Valvo tallied 24 tackles and an interception.
A National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III institution, Albion is a charter member of the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA), joining the league in 1888.
Since 2019, the Britons have been coached by Dustin Beurer, an alumnus of the school. The program did not take the field in the fall, as the MIAA, citing concerns over the possible spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19), voted to postpone the season until spring 2021.
Slated to consist of six league games, Albion will begin their campaign against the Adrian Bulldogs at Sprankle-Sprandel Stadium on Sunday, March 14 at 1 p.m.
