Oxford bowling teams roll over Royal Oak

The first action for the team since their first-place showing in the Oakland County Tournament on Jan. 19, the Oxford Wildcats boys’ bowling team made the trip to Astro Lanes in Madison Heights to battle the Royal Oak Ravens on Jan. 23. Oxford improved to 6-0 (1-0 Oakland Activities Association Red) on the season, the boys cruised to a 29-1 victory.

Historically, both the Wildcats’ boys and girls programs have performed well in these old-school confines and the latest match continued this good fortune.
Junior Justin Powell led the charge with games of 255 and 225. Fellow junior Justin Sisson and sophomore Tony Verbeke chipped in games of 247 and 234, respectively.
“This was the first time all year all the guys clicked at the same time,” head coach JR Lafnear pointed out.
“It was fun to watch. We really had everything going tonight and Royal Oak paid the price. We have a big match next Monday (Jan. 27 vs. the Farmington Falcons at Collier Lanes in Oxford), and it’s good to see the team starting to hit on all cylinders.”

Faring nearly as well as the boys, the girls rolled to a 26-4 victory of their own. The Ladycats are also undefeated on the year at 5-0 (1-0 OAA Red).
A pair of sophomores were the high scorers on the day for Oxford; Ashley Bales tallied a 202 game and Grace Meyer turned in consecutive games of 193.
“The girls are continuing to become more consistent,” Lafnear shared. “This is what we expected from this team. They have worked hard and it’s showing.
“The road gets a little tougher the next few matches, so they will be tested.”
Each just one-half game behind the Troy Colts at 2-0, the boys and girls both currently occupy a share of second-place in the division.

Both squads will roll off against Bloomfield Hills (1-2 in OAA White) tomorrow and against Avondale (0-4 in OAA Red) this coming Monday.
